Company Overview

Masher Media is an early stage startup which is producing a revolutionary new MMOG for kids called MyMiniPeeps. MyMiniPeeps will define the next evolution in kids’ websites -- it is a unique, social and safe online virtual world and community for kids ages 6-13 that will raise the bar for innovative concept, level of interaction, and creative and aesthetic content on the web. MyMiniPeeps will be one of the first fully immersive 3-D multiplayer environments for this demographic, playable on the browser, through a download to the hard-drive and on the iPhone.

Job Description

Summary

Masher Media has produced a solid demo. of MyMiniPeeps and is now ready to staff the engineering team that will architect and build out the version 1.0 platform. We are looking for game developers who are captivated by online games and virtual worlds in general and who are excited by joining a company which is expected to have a real impact on the industry.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience developing MMOGs. He/she must be comfortable developing the client side environment (including the necessary scripting/coding) as well as developing the server side game logic (including threads management, database access, etc.).

Experience with developing other related components such as registration, buddies list, chat, etc., will also be valuable.

This is initially a consulting position but is expected to become a full time employee position.                                                                                                                                                              

  Primary Duties

This person will be responsible for some of the following activities (the exact set is TBD).

  • Implementation of 3D MMOG features
    • Client-side virtual world development and coding
    • Server-side implementation of game infrastructure (e.g., shard selection), game logic, persistence, etc.
  • Implementation of ancillary functions (either via the integration and configuration of third party packages or developed internally)
    • Registration
    • Buddies List
    • Chat Filtering
    • Parent Portal (monitoring and approval of child's activities)
    • Microtransactions

Secondary Duties

This person may also be responsible for some of the the following activities, (the exact set is TBD).

  • iPhone application
    • Modifications to implementation to support iPhone version of game.
    • Writing a client-side library for communication with the server-side platform.
  • Web site support

Qualifications

Skills - Required

The applicant should have significant experience in most, if not all, of these areas.

  • MMOG development (ideally, 3D) -- both client side and server side
  • Software: Unity 3D
  • Languages: C#, Java (expert in one or both of these)

Skills - Desired

The following skills and experience would be very helpful for this position.

  • Enjoyment of playing online games
  • Strong communication skills; team-oriented
  • Languages: Python, PHP and/or Perl
  • Software: MySQL, Crisp
  • Designing and/or programming a games for children
  • Programming of multi-tier, multithreaded applications, e.g.:
    • Network communications (e.g., socket servers)
    • Database schema design
    • Transaction processing (in-game, credit card, third-party systems)
    • Threads and locking
  • Patch management and deployment
  • Cloud computing
  • Game analytics tracking and reporting
  • System monitoring and performance
